A pangram is a sentence which uses every letter of the alphabet at least once. Pangrams are often used to display typefaces and by students practicing the art of typing.
An example of a pangram is “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.”
The following set of encaustic works will use a single pangrams within each of the panels using my hand cast encaustic colored wax crayons (from the crayon alphabet), encaustic, vinyl lettering, and other materials to produce a series of works that are focused on some of the more well known pangrams. The object of the work is to tie together the notion of fonts and letters into that of colors in a playful yet direct way while referencing the ideas behind the use use of typeface design and “old-school” layout spreads. It also allows me the freedom to experiment with other techniques and layout mechanisms for the arrangement of words and color.
